CHAMP-ION

CHAMP-ION (Championing European Ion-Trap Quantum Technologies) is a European initiative establishing the first open-access High-Quality Pilot Line (HQ-PL) for ion-trap quantum chips (ITCs). As one of six quantum pilot lines funded under the European Chips Act and the Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU), the project is creating the manufacturing capabilities needed to bring ion-trap quantum technologies from the laboratory to industry.By developing high-quality fabrication processes, standardized Process Design Kits (PDKs), and advanced chip integration technologies, CHAMP-ION will enable the production of next-generation ion-trap chips at industrial quality and scale. Through open access to its pilot line, the project will support researchers, startups, SMEs, and industry in accelerating innovation and developing quantum technologies for computing, communication, sensing, and beyond.
